Working principle of online UPS


When the mains supply is normal, the UPS power supply connecting the mains supply and the load first rectifies the mains AC power supply into a DC power supply, then performs pulse width modulation and filtering, and then re converts the DC power into a sine wave AC power supply through the inverter to supply power to the load. When the mains power is interrupted, the UPS power supply will immediately and uninterruptedly change to the DC power provided by the battery to provide the load with sine wave AC power through the inverter. Therefore, for the online UPS power supply, under normal conditions, it is powered by the inverter of the UPS power supply to the load whether there is mains power or not, so as to avoid all the impacts caused by the voltage fluctuation and interference of the mains power grid. Because the online UPS power supply can stabilize the frequency and voltage of the load, and when the mains power supply is switched to battery power supply, the switching time is zero. It truly provides users with high-quality voltage stabilizing and frequency stabilizing pure sine wave power supply, so as to provide power protection that meets the needs of the network system.


Working principle of backup UPS


When the mains supply is normal, the mains supply directly supplies power to the load through the AC bypass channel and then through the transfer switch, without passing through the UPS power supply. The inverter in the machine is in the stop state, and the UPS power supply is essentially equivalent to a mains voltage regulator with ordinary performance. In addition to the improvement of the amplitude fluctuation of the mains voltage, it has basically no improvement on the adverse effects such as the frequency instability of the voltage, waveform distortion, and interference intruding from the power grid. Only when the mains power supply is interrupted or lower than 170V, the storage battery will supply power to the UPS inverter and provide the load with square wave AC power supply with stable voltage and amount. It can be seen from the above that the power supply quality of online UPS is obviously better than that of backup UPS in terms of power supply principle and voltage stabilization and frequency stabilization. Because it can not only stabilize the frequency and stabilize the voltage of the load, but also achieve zero switching time when the mains power supply is switched to battery power supply.

In terms of price, there is also a big difference between the two UPS power supplies. Generally speaking, the price of online UPS with the same power and brand is much higher than that of backup UPS. However, because the backup UPS power supply is not directly connected to the mains and load, the inverter is normally turned off, so the maintenance cost of the backup UPS power supply is relatively low.

In terms of the application field, the backup UPS power supply is generally low in power, and is mostly used for temporary power supply, such as household personal electricity, personal computer host, etc., where the frequency and voltage are relatively stable and the power requirements are not very high. On the other hand, online UPS has a wide range of power from one KVA to several hundred KVA, and can be used in data centers, servers, elevators, supermarket power supply, etc. It can meet different environmental requirements.
